The story

“Creating, launching, growing and operating a gym has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life,” Stan said. “This industry is tough. It tests your will, your fortitude, your endurance and your confidence. Friends and family often don’t understand the commitment, the long hours or the unforgiving pressure, and it can feel incredibly isolating.”

Stan has a wealth of experience. He served as an athletic trainer and strength coach for the Boston Red Sox organization, as well as the University of Southern Maine, and he worked for eight years in a sports physical therapy center, treating patients and specializing in throwing athletes.

He then spent 18 years working for OA Centers for Orthopedics, and he designed and managed the OA Performance Center, one of New England’s first fully integrated sports medicine, physical therapy and sports performance facilities. Stan successfully managed that facility for more than 10 years before departing to launch Skolfield Sports Performance.

Skolfield Sports Performance started with one client in a 2,000-square-foot personal training studio that shared space with five other coaches. In 18 months, Stan’s business grew fast, so he moved into the current 10,000-square-foot sports performance facility.

Stan discovered Two-Brain Business while researching compensation structures for his gym. Chris Cooper’s 4/9ths Model immediately stood out for its clarity and practicality, and it led Stan to explore Chris’ other business articles, especially those focused on systems development.

“I want to help gym owners understand that there is a path to running a successful, sustainable gym, one that allows them to reach their financial and personal goals while doing work they’re truly passionate about.”

As a Two-Brain mentor, Stan’s mission is “to empower gym owners the same way I empower young athletes: by helping them develop discipline, high standards and belief in what’s possible so they can build a business they’re proud of.”

He specializes in sports performance for youth, building relationships with other sports-medicine providers, and running post-rehabilitation programs. Stan holds a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of Southern Maine, as well as ATC and CSCS credentials.

He and wife Jenny co-own Skolfield Sports Performance, and they have two sons, Kyle and Casey. Stan is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, mountain biking and camping. He also coaches high-school sports.
