Ashley Mak

Ashley Mak has gone through every stage of entrepreneurship.

After earning a doctorate in physical therapy and becoming a physical therapist in 2012, he became a CrossFit coach in 2013. He opened his own therapy practice in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 2014, and in 2017, he leveled up from coach to gym owner, opening Hudson River Fitness in Hoboken. He has also taught masters-level business courses at Kean University in New Jersey.

Since opening his gym, Ashley has gone from managing all the day-to-day operations of Hudson River Fitness to serving as remote CEO. Now living in Tiburon, California, he’s able to invest his time into starting a new business in California—Dragon Physical Therapy—while overseeing his gym from afar.

Ashley was referred to Two-Brain Business by a former business partner, and he began the Incubator program in 2017. Mentorship helped Ashley recoup his investment in the business within six months of opening—while paying himself a salary and taking profit distributions—and buy out his majority partner within two years.

Now, Ashley wants to pass on what he’s learned to other entrepreneurs, using his experience with building systems, sales, and hard conversations to help others live out their Perfect Days.

“The hustle-and-grind culture—sleeping four hours per night and not hanging out with the people you care about—is no longer relevant,” he said. “Two-Brain Business has taught me that your businesses are the platform allowing you to sleep more, be healthy and ultimately be happy.”

Part of Ashley’s Perfect Day includes time away from work, and in his downtime, he loves to play video games, watch “The Matrix” and travel with his wife.

And he wants to help his clients get to their Perfect Days even faster than he did.

“If it took me three years to get to this point, the goal is to get clients there in less time,” he said.

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” - Albert Schweitzer
